Canon RF 24-50mm f4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens
The Canon RF 24-50mm f4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is an ultra-compact, lightweight standard zoom lens engineered for Canon’s full-frame EOS R mirrorless system. Offering a highly portable form factor, this lens retracts when not in use, making it an exceptional everyday walkaround lens for travel, street photography, snapshot capture, and casual vlogging.
Key Features
- Compact Standard Zoom Range: Spans from a wide 24mm perspective—ideal for landscapes, interiors, and group shots—to a natural 50mm focal length perfect for portraits and street snapshots.
- Ultra-Compact Retractable Body: Features a mechanical twist-to-extend locking barrel that collapses down to a mere 58mm in length, sliding easily into small bags or deep coat pockets.
- Up to 4.5 Stops of Optical Image Stabilization: Built-in optical IS counteracts camera shake by up to 4.5 stops, expanding to an incredible 7.0 stops of coordinated stabilization when mounted on an EOS R camera body featuring In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS).
- Stepping Motor (STM) Technology: Driven by a gear-type stepping motor that delivers smooth, near-silent, and precise continuous autofocusing, tracking moving subjects accurately for both stills and video production.
- Featherweight Travel Build: Weighing just 210 grams, its lightweight construction keeps your entire camera rig nimble and easily balances on smaller travel-friendly motorized gimbals.
- Precision Optical Layout: Comprises 8 elements in 8 groups, incorporating two aspherical glass elements to systematically suppress spherical aberrations, geometric distortions, and color fringing.
- Super Spectra Coating (SSC): Applied to individual lens surfaces to drastically minimize internal reflections, ghosting, and flare, preserving rich contrast and color accuracy in bright daylight conditions.
- 7-Blade Circular Aperture Array: Produces soft, rounded out-of-focus background details and a pleasing bokeh effect to smoothly isolate closer subjects.
- Dual-Function Control/Focus Ring: Integrates a single customizable physical ring on the lens barrel that can toggle natively between precise manual focusing and adjusting exposure settings like ISO, aperture, or exposure compensation.
- High-Speed 12-Pin Communication System: Unlocks real-time digital lens corrections and peripheral illumination adjustments via continuous, high-speed data syncing with EOS R camera bodies.

Camera System Compatibility
The Canon RF 24-50mm f4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens is natively compatible with all Canon EOS R-series mirrorless camera bodies. It pairs optimally with lightweight full-frame bodies such as the EOS R8 and EOS RP to create an ultra-portable, nimble walkaround kit. When attached to APS-C format sensor camera bodies (such as the EOS R7, EOS R10, or EOS R50), the lens capitalizes on the sensor crop factor to yield a 35mm equivalent focal length of approximately 38.4–80mm, acting as a highly stabilized and unique short-telephoto zoom lens.
